New York Yankees add Luis Severino to Wild Card Game roster

The New York Yankees have added rookie starter Luis Severino to their roster for Tuesday’s American League Wild Card game against the Houston Astros. Severino serve as the team’s emergency starter and also provide long relief should the game go extra innings.

Severino impressed in his rookie season this year, posting a 5-3 record with a 2.89 ERA across 11 starts. He struck out batters at an impressive 8.1 K/9 rate, the the Yankees will hope he can keep his walks under control in the postseason.

Masahiro Tanaka takes the ball for the Yankees on Tuesday night, as they face a do-or-die one-game Wild Card Series against the hit-or-miss Houston Astros. Tanaka has carried over momentum from a strong rookie year to go 12-7 with a 3.51 ERA in 24 starts, leading a surprisingly successful Yankees staff.

Houston will send their own ace to the hill in the form of Dallas Keuchel, who has pieced together a season that will likely garner the attention of some American League Cy Young award voters. The 27-year-old went 20-8 in 2015 with a 2.48 ERA in a league-leading 232.0 innings.
