Injury Update: Addison Russell out for Chicago Cubs in Game 4 with hamstring tightness
Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell is out again for Tuesday’s Game 4 NLDS matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals. The rookie shortstop left Monday’s game with hamstring tightness, and was replaced by Javier Baez.
Baez will start in Russell’s place Tuesday, coming off a hot postseason debut in which he picked up hits in both his trips to the plate. Baez will look to have a stronger showing on defense after committing an error Monday night. After struggling to be consistent in his first call-up last season, the 22-year-old returned to hit .289 down the stretch this year to lock up a spot on the postseason roster.
While Baez isn’t a terrible defender at short, the Cubs will hope Russell can get healthy in time to see regular action in a potential NLCS matchup. While he may be a downgrade from Baez at the plate, the Cubs demonstrated on Monday night that they have more than enough bats to make up for his so-so offensive numbers.
The Cubs look to clinch their first playoff series since the 2003 NLDS, and their first ever at Wrigley Field. Jason Hammel will go against John Lackey, with first pitch scheduled for 3:37 local time. The game can be seen on TBS.
