Minnesota Twins outright Eric Fryer, Shane Robinson and Aaron Thompson

The Minnesota Twins have outrighted catcher Eric Fryer, outfielder Shane Robinson and pitcher Aaron Thompson, according to Phil Miller of the Star Tribune:

The move clears up space on the team’s 40-man roster as we near the offseason. Each player saw modest action with the Twins in 2015.

Fryer appeared in just 15 games, hitting .227/.370/.318 and driving in a pair of runs. He struck out 11 times in 27 plate appearances. The 30-year-old put up a .293/.367/.360 line with two home runs and 19 RBI in 67 games for Triple-A Rochester, however.

Robinson has also bounced between the majors and minors during his career. This season was the 30-year-old’s first in Minnesota after spending the previous nine in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He made his big league debut in 2009 and played a career-high 102 games in 2012.

The outfielder’s career highlight to date came during Game 4 of the 2013 NLCS when he hit a seventh-inning solo homer to increase the Cards’ lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He slashed .250/.299/.322 in 83 games this year for the Twins.

Thompson, a left-handed reliever, received his biggest taste yet of MLB action in 2015, appearing in 41 games. He did not turn in the most memorable performance, posting a 5.01 ERA over 32.1 innings while striking out 17 and walking 11.

The 28-year-old had previously pitched in 11 games total between 2011 and 2014 for the Pirates and Twins, respectively.

The trio will attempt to find new homes in time for the 2016 campaign, while the Twins seek to improve their roster and build on this year’s surprising second-place finish in the AL Central.
