The Los Angeles Dodgers had some fun at umpire Joe West’s expense during Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves, using his country songs as their walkup music.

West enjoys himself off the baseball field by writing and performing country music. The longtime umpire (40 years, to be exact) has released two albums: Blue Cowboy in 1987 and Diamond Dreams in 2008. With West working behind the plate on Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers decided to be jokesters by using some of his songs as their walk-up music.

The Dodgers might be forced to use West’s songs as walk-up music more often considering how they performed while using it Sunday. They plated two runs in the first inning, followed by Enrique Hernandez‘s second-inning homer that totaled three Dodger runs while walking up to “Cowboy West’s” music.

According to ESPN, West took the joke in stride. He was seen laughing on the Dodger Stadium video board.

You might be wondering who was the mastermind who came up with this brilliant idea. That would be none other than second baseman Chase Utley.

Of course it was.

For an idea of what was blasting through Dodger Stadium’s speakers, check out a couple of Joe West’s country music tracks below:

Joe West certainly has had a better career as an umpire than as a country music singer, but that does not mean that we cannot have some fun with him. Chase Utley and the Los Angeles Dodgers certainly enjoyed themselves at his expense with their walkup music.
