MLB Draft: Delvin Perez failed a drug test
Top MLB draft prospect Delvin Perez has failed a drug test, which could potentially force him down the draft board.
With the 2016 MLB Draft just a day away, teams are making their final preparations for it. They are getting their draft boards together and running through various scenerios in order to figure out where they are going to find their next star player to help their team win and hopefully a World Series.
Some team may either get some serious value or a huge headache and a first round miss. 17 year old shortstop Delvin Perez is one of the top prospects coming into the draft, but has been sliding down boards as they day nears. We may have our answer as to why.
According to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball, Perez failed a drug test. Now, it’s important to note that it doesn’t say PED. It could be for marijuana.

Perez hit .556 and led his team in RBI on the way to the title in the recent Victor Pellot Excellence Tournament.
Perez is the number nine prospect in the draft according to MLB Pipeline.
In Heyman’s post, he says that teams already have some character concerns about Perez which is contributing to his fall on draft boards. In MLB.com’s latest mock, Perez was slated at five to the Milwaukee Brewers.
There’s no question that the kid has talent. He’s also very young at just 17 years of age. I’m sure you did something at 17 you wouldn’t do now. With a strong leadership presence in the minors, someone could help him turn things around right?

Teams have to ask themselves, especially ones like the Padres or Braves with multiple picks, if he’s there and with picks to play with, shouldn’t you take a chance on the kid? I think I just might.
