New York Mets: Jose Reyes to join team Tuesday
The New York Mets will activate Jose Reyes before their game on Tuesday night vs the Marlins
The New York Mets infield is about to get a little more crowded, as they are set to activate Jose Reyes onto their roster before the game tonight’s game against the Miami Marlins.
The 33 year old played in 10 games in the Mets minor league system. In eight games with AA Binghamton, Reyes hit .240 with two RBI.

Looking at the Mets roster, my guess is they either option Matt Reynolds to AAA, or DFA Alejandro De Aza. De Aza is hitting a paltry .162 in 99 at bats this season with the Mets.
Reyes has been playing third in the minors, so he will more than likely cut into the playing time of Wilmer Flores. The funny thing, Flores has not been the problem with the Mets offense.
The 24 year old, over his last 15 games, is hitting .275 with an OPS of .780. He’s also hit 3 homers, driven in 10 runs and went 6-6 on Saturday.
You would have to think Flores will now move into a super utility infield role. Part of what made the Mets a dangerous club last year was their depth and the fact that they had multiple guys who could play multiple positions. If you didn’t hit, you didn’t play. It’s their hope that with Reyes, Kelly Johnson, and rookie Brandon Nimmo, who’s given the club a real spark, that they can duplicate that this year.
Flores is a much better player with consistent at-bats. You could tell earlier in the season that he couldn’t handle the role of coming off the bench. Flores hasn’t been their problem since David Wright went down.
The Mets have to hope Reyes has something left in the tank. I think he’ll be very motivated and give the Mets some speed and base-stealing ability, something the club sorely lacks. I do think that he may play less than people think.
