Just Missed the Cut:

Although these guys had stellar first-half performances, they just weren’t good enough to crack the top-five. But not to worry…we still have another half of the season for them to slip in there.

  • David Ortiz – It was a sad day for all of Red Sox Nation when Big Papi announced he was hanging up the spikes after the season back in Spring Training, but he hasn’t disappointed in his finale. The guy who could qualify for a senior citizen discount at most movie theatres is toting a .332 average with 22 home runs and 72 RBI’s. Offensively, he has been one of the best hitters in the majors. However, playing as a DH is the kiss of death for Big Papi’s MVP chances.
  • Mike TroutI already know I’m going to get crap for this one. Yes, Mike Trout is having a great year after an ugly start. He’s hitting .322 with 18 homeruns and 58 RBI’s. He’s easily the best player that the Angels have, and one of the best players in the MLB. He even leads the MLB in WAR (Wins Above Replacement) with 5.66(although this is somewhat inflated by the roster). So why is he on this list? BECAUSE THE ANGELS STINK. They’re dead last in the West with a 37-52 record, and don’t look to be improving. He may be having a great year, but it’s not really affecting his team.
  • Chris Sale

The White Sox have 45 wins this year,

    Chris Sale

owns 14 of those. He’s accounted for nearly one-third of his team’s wins. Thus making him a candidate for MVP. Sale has pitched 125 innings in his 18 starts. However, Sale just misses the cut due to being a pitcher.
