Seattle Mariners first round pick Kyle Lewis is out for the season after injuring his knee in a collision at home plate
The Seattle Mariners made a big trade yesterday adding slugging prospect Dan Vogelbach from the Chicago Cubs. Vogelbach is the first baseman of the future and his future may be before the end of the season in the Pacific Northwest.
Another part of their future is first round pick Kyle Lewis. The Golden Spikes winning outfielder fell to the 11th pick where the Mariners took him this year. Lewis is hitting .299 with a .915 OPS in his first 30 games of his professional career in short-season A ball.

Unfortunately for him, his season is over.
Lewis tore his ACL, along with his medial and lateral meniscus on Tuesday and he will miss the rest of the season after a collision at home plate.
Lewis was named to six different All-America teams and was the Southern Conference player of the year this year. He was the first player ever from Mercer to win the Golden Spikes Award. He was leading the league in total bases, slugging, RBI and runs and tied for the league lead in triples at the time of his injury.
This is a tough break for the Mariners and Lewis but one he can recover from. Lewis will obviously miss the rest of this season and a good chunk of next year as he recovers it. You can recover from an injury like this and end up getting your career back.
Lewis turned 21 back on the 13th. He’s got the talent and he should be a big leaguer one day. It may just be that his timetable will be pushed back a year.
