Shortly after sending Andrew Miller to the Cleveland Indians, the New York Yankees added to their bullpen by acquiring Tyler Clippard from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The New York Yankees got an incredible haul for Andrew Miller earlier in the day but needed some bullpen depth for the rest of this year. Someone who could help set up new closer Dellin Betances. They got that by acquiring veteran righty Tyler Clippard from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Clippard was drafted by the Yankees back in 2003 and came up as a starter before being traded to the Washington Nationals.

Clippard is 2-3 this season with the Diamondbacks with an ERA of 4.30. His strikeout rate is up over 11 per nine innings, which is his highest since 2010.  His hits per nine is up over eight which is two higher than last season with A’s and Mets.

Vicente Campos was the Yankees’ 14th ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline. Campos come over from Seattle as part of 2012’s Michael Pineda Jesus Montero deal. He missed the 2014 season due to injury but has really turned it around this season.

Between three levels of the minors, Campos is 9-3 with a 3.20 ERA. He’s got 105 strikeouts in 121 innings. According to MLB Pipeline’s scouting report:

"Campos is back to sitting at 93-95 mph with his fastball, which has decent life and tops out at 97. He’s doing a better job of staying on top of his hard curveball and deceiving hitters with his changeup. Both of his secondary offerings grade as solid and show flashes of becoming plus pitches.Campos also has made strides with repeating his delivery and commanding his fastball. He still has to prove he can maintain his stuff and stay healthy over a full season — he never pitched more than 87 innings in a year prior to 2016 — but if he does he could blossom into a mid-rotation starter who could help the Yankees in the near future."

Campos can be a part of the Diamondbacks rotation in the future as they could use the depth after all of their trades.

The Yankees can use Clippard at the back of their bullpen this year and next as they continue to retool their team.
