The Houston Astros announced this morning that Colby Rasmus is headed for a disabled list stint. He was placed on the DL due to a right ear cyst. Tony Kemp has been recalled to fill the roster spot left by Rasmus.
Rasmus started his season out in decent fashion putting together productive numbers for the first few months of the season. Since July, however, Rasmus has struggled to put the ball in play with any authority, much less get on base. He received a qualifying offer from the Astros this past off-season, but it is doubtful with his level of production that he will receive another.
The Astros have had a bit of the injury bug lately with Luis Valbuena, Lance McCullers, Luke Gregorson, and now Colby Rasmus all going down. While none of these players are vital to the Astros’ season, it is concerning to see so many players go down in the span of a couple of weeks.
As long as Jose Altuve can stay healthy the Astros will continue to feel pretty good about their postseason chances for 2016 .
