Seattle Mariners

Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager have quietly dominated this season, but it hasn’t been enough to keep up with the Rangers. If they can recapture some magic from early in the season, Seattle has a decent shot at taking the second Wild Card spot. However, a good-not-great starting rotation will ultimately keep the Mariners from gaining any traction in the final weeks of the season.

St. Louis Cardinals

It’s hard to ever count the Cardinals out, but the dominance of the Cubs and hints of mediocrity on their roster will ultimately keep them from clinching a Wild Card berth. The emergence of Aledmys Diaz and Stephen Piscotty gives St. Louis hope for the future, but just not enough to keep them in contention this season.

Boston Red Sox

With their dangerous lineup, the Red Sox could make a serious run at any point in the next month. The issues with David Price and the rest of the pitching staff may hold them back from catching the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays, however. If recently acquired Drew Pomeranz gets hot and Steven Wright continues to dominate, the Sox could make a run – but don’t count on it.
