With Tim Tebow’s public workout next week, David Aardsma, a retired pitcher, likes what he sees for the MLB hopeful.
Everyone is continuing to voice their opinions on Tim Tebow’s hopes to play Major League Baseball. The last was former MLB closer David Aardsma who pitched to Tebow earlier this week as part of a workout. He had this to say about his workout with the former Florida Gators star quarterback:
"“When I walked away, as a pitcher, I was pretty impressed, He needs to see a lot more pitching and understand what the pitcher is watching and seeing from him and adjusting. That’s not something you know until you’re in it. I was really impressed with his adjustments. You know he’s going to have power — he’s huge. He has a pretty good swing. I wanted to see the adjustments. If a pitch is down, how does he adjust? If I threw a slider down, he went down to try to get it. It wasn’t like he was swinging at the same plane and getting fooled. He was aggressively attacking the ball where it was. He’s obviously not ready to step into a big-league lineup, but he looked a lot more like a guy trying to get his timing back the first week of spring training than a player who hasn’t played the game since high school a dozen years ago,In my opinion, having seen Tebow up close and personal, he isn’t far off from being extremely competitive at a high level. I honestly believe that Tim could have a future in this game … If I were planning Tim’s future, I would try to get him into rookie ball as soon as possible, then instructional league, and then send him to Mexico or the Dominican Republic to face some real pitching before having him ready for spring training.”"

While it seems like a pretty high review from a former Major League player, it is fair to note that the former closer is just that. A former closer who is no longer playing ball in the Major Leagues and was demoted to minor league baseball where he was also ineffective.
Still his review of Tim Tebow’s baseball ability does add a tiny bit of legitimacy to Tebow’s wish to start a career in baseball. While it is still doubtful that, as an almost 30-year-old, he will ever reach the major leagues it isn’t a stretch to think that he will be selling tickets in the minor leagues for someone very soon.
David Aardsma last appeared in the Major Leagues last season with the Atlanta Braves and was highly ineffective. He struggled to find outs and with almost any other team would have been let go sooner. The Braves lack of depth gave him a chance that he failed to capitalize on. So, while his review of Tebow may add some legitimacy to Tebow’s baseball playing hopes it is also important to remember it is coming from a pitcher who hasn’t been successful at the Major League level in quite a while.
