The issues continue for the New York Mets and their starting rotation. Yesterday, it was announced that Jacob deGrom will miss his next start.

The New York Mets have announced that their ace, Jacob deGrom, will likely skip his next start.  He has struggled in his recent outings, allowing his team to fall out of the game early and looking nothing like the young ace that he has been over the course of the last few seasons.

Both Terry Collins and Jacob deGrom insist that there was not an injury causing them to skip his next start; rather, it is a matter of time to allow him to find and fix the problems causing his recent struggles. This has been the way the season has seemed to go for the Mets as a team.

It started early this season with Matt Harvey unable to figure out why he could not pitch like the ace he was for the Mets in seasons past. This stretched on for much of the season, and resulted in Harvey undergoing a season ending surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome.

Zack Wheeler is still working his way back from injury and has taken a bit longer than was first anticipated. He, along with Harvey, should be ready to join the Mets rotation full time next year.

The offense has been much the same, having little consistency and striking out at alarming rates at times. The problem seems to be that they have too many low average power hitters in the same lineup. That is something they should look to address and fix this off-season.

Steven Matz has been bitten by the injury bug as well, struggling to get back on the field several times this season as injuries have derailed him. The Mets hope for his return in the next week.

The good news for deGrom is that he is not facing an injury, unlike many of the Met’s pitchers. Instead, he is taking a bit of time to rest and work on his mechanics. The only problem for him is with the extra rest, there will be extra expectations as well. Whether or not skipping a start helps Jacob deGrom is something that we will soon find out, as he is expected to pitch next week.
