Cleveland Indians fans are doing everything they can to support their team. They are even bringing goats to the stadium to carry on the Chicago Cubs’ famous “Curse of the Billy Goat”.

The World Series between the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs begins on Tuesday. One of these teams is going to finally win a World Series title after a long drought. The Indians have not won a championship since 1948 and the Cubs have not won since 1908.

Not only are these teams desperate for a championship, the fans are. Cleveland Indians fans are going so far as to bring goats to the stadium. Many Cubs fans believe their team hasn’t been to a World Series in over 70 years because of “Billy the Goat.”

During Game 4 of the 1945 World Series, Billy Sianis, owner of the Billy Goat Tavern, arrived at Wrigley Field with his pet goat. Sianis, who had bought a ticket for his goat, was either turned away at the gate or allowed in but asked to leave to do the smell of the goat, according to History.com. Regardless, Sianis famously stated, “Them Cubs… they ain’t gonna win no more.”

Since then, the Cubs lost in the 1945 World Series and have not appeared in one since.

Indians fan Alan Mancuso decided bringing a goat to Progressive Field would carry on the curse.

“Everyone was really excited that I did it,” Alan Mancuso said Monday. “Especially those that know about the curse.”

Alan, and his wife Beth, own three goats at their home in Ohio City. While at Sunday church, Mancuso was given the idea of bringing a goat by his friend Mark Duskey.

“I thought my wife would nix the idea,” but she agreed, he said.

Mancuso, along with the help of his daughter, Duskey’s son, and another friend, lifted two goats, CC and Stardust, into the back of Duskey’s minivan. They headed downtown with the two goats and some hay.

Once they arrived at the stadium, they took the goats out new several of the entrances to remind people of the curse. The goats walked about and received quite a bit of attention. They even became a hot commodity for fans to take selfies with.

“This was to razz our friends in Chicago,” said Mancuso, who has long been a Cubs fan, too. But he declared when the Cubs are in town, he will be wearing a Cleveland jersey.

“I’m a bigger Indians fan,” he said.
