Texas Rangers to Give Away Adrian Beltre Bobbleleg Statue

The Texas Rangers have announced an exciting giveaway for this coming April: an Adrian Beltre bobbleleg statue.

It’s always nice to have an excuse to write about everyone’s favorite future Hall of Fame third baseman. The Texas Rangers have given us a great one: On April 29, they will give away an Adrian Beltre bobbleleg statue.

This is the second consecutive year that the Rangers have created a unique bobble with Beltre’s likeness. In 2016 he had a bobblehead with a removable helmet. Beltre is notorious for not wanting his head touched. This edition honors his fancy footwork on the basepaths: While Beltre has stolen exactly one base in each of his six seasons with the Rangers, he showed off some dance moves that can be viewed in a gif in the link above.

The giveaway is limited to just 15,000 pieces, so fans will definitely want to arrive early for the Saturday evening clash with the Los Angeles Angels. Might as well stick around for the postgame concert from Toadies, who you may remember from their 1995 hit song “Possum Kingdom.” If you can name literally any other song they’ve done, you’re more knowledgeable than I.

Beltre deserves all the marketing he gets. He will turn 38 less than a week into the 2017 campaign, his 20th. When Beltre debuted in 1998 he was the youngest player in the league. Now he’s one of the oldest, but still going strong with consecutive seventh-place MVP finishes the past two seasons and his fifth Gold Glove last year.

Beltre is under contract for two more seasons, but it’s hard to see him stepping away from the game any time soon. He plays the game with a joy and passion that is exceedingly rare to find. He seems to enjoy every moment, and retirement seems to be a foreign concept.

By the end of his current deal, Beltre could easily surpass 100 career wins above replacement (per Baseball-Reference). He’ll be safely in the top 15 on the career hits list, in the top 25 on the career RBI list and in the top 30 on the career home runs list. He should break into the top 10 in games played, at bats, doubles and total bases. He’ll surpass Brooks Robinson for the most games played at third base, and is already the second-best defensive third baseman in baseball history behind Robinson.

This season alone Beltre will hit some impressive milestones. Three thousand hits is just the beginning. Beltre will also surpass 450 home runs, 1,600 RBI, 1,500 runs, 5,000 total bases, 600 doubles and 1,100 extra base hits.
