The St. Louis Cardinals have devised a new way for cost-conscious fans to witness a season’s worth of action at the ballpark.
The St. Louis Cardinals are routinely among the best-drawing teams in baseball. Expect that to continue with a new way to bring fans out to Busch Stadium: the Cardinals Ballpark Pass.
It’s pretty straight-forward. Pay an automatically recurring $29.99 per month and receive a standing room only mobile ticket to every regular season game, with the exception of opening day.
This ticket will only get you in the park; it will not grant you a seat (although for most games, especially on weekdays, you’re bound to find an empty seat somewhere). The tickets aren’t transferable, so if you can’t use your ticket for a particular game, you can’t give the ticket to anyone else.
Ballpark Pass holders won’t be considered season ticket holders and won’t receive any benefits that come with that distinction. This is such an incredible deal, though, that most who spring for the pass won’t complain. If a fan were to buy all six months for roughly $180, they would be able to attend 80 games for $2.25 each! The cheapest season ticket rate, for the 1st base terrace, works out to $17 per game.

You aren’t locked in to a full season, either. If you only want the pass for certain months, it appears you can do that with relative ease as long as you notify customer service in a timely fashion. For example, my wife and I will be flying to St. Louis for my birthday weekend in June. The Cardinals host the Phillies for three games June 9-11. The cheapest one can get a face-value ticket for all three games is $77.70 in the right field terrace. For the two of us, that’s more than $150 just to get through the gate. We could each register for the Ballpark Pass for June for $60 total!
Since we’ll be coming in from Virginia, I would much prefer to have better seats. But for, say, a college student who lives near St. Louis and wants something to do in the summer months? It is impossible to beat this value.
I imagine there will be some sort of quantity restraint, as fire marshals would probably not allow 100,000 people in a baseball stadium. For now, though, this represents an opportunity for Cardinals fans to experience the Busch Stadium atmosphere at about half the cost of a bottle of water at the concession stand.
