The Washington Nationals have a few pretty good players on their roster, and one of the best among the best is current shortstop Trea Turner. During day two of the MLB Draft, the Nats doubled down on the name and selected Trey Turner with pick number 303 overall.
The Washington Nationals must like Trea Turner a lot to take someone in the draft based solely on his name (presumably). While the current Trea was acquired in a trade (as a player to be named later no less) in the three-team deal that saw the San Diego Padres give up Turner and Tampa’s current number four prospect Jake Bauers (among others) in exchange for Wil Myers (among others).
Trey Turner is a right-handed pitcher out of Missouri State, and because of his name being so closely linked to a player that has had lots written about him, it’s a bit rough to find information on him that isn’t about his draft status as of yesterday. Baseball America is currently re-routing to Trea “E-A” Turner, while “E-Y” has been getting the full Twitter treatment.
Even the Colorado Rockies joined in on the fun.
Suffice it to say, it’s going to be a long road ahead for Trey Turner.

According to CSN Atlantic, Trey was ranked as the ninth overall prospect in the state of Missouri and apparently has some skills at the plate as well. With two-way players being all the rage these days, perhaps Trey will learn how to play up the middle and form a Turner x 2 double play combo on his off days.
Aside from the name shenanigans, the other common joke that has been related to the Nationals needing bullpen help, and, well, Trey is a pitcher, so obviously he’s going to save the team this season.
At just 18, this is obviously not happening.

On a more serious note, congratulations to Trey Turner for getting drafted on day two. Not everyone gets that chance, and when some do, it’s hard not to feel happy for them realizing their dreams.
