Ric Flair Endorses Miami Marlins first baseman Justin Bour for NL final vote
Listen here, brother. Justin Bour is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be, so he deserves your help in the NL final vote. And that’s the bottom line, because Stone Cold said so!
By my count that’s three wrestling catchphrases, none of which are current, and none of which actually belong to Ric Flair, who did in fact endorse Miami Marlins first baseman Justin Bour in the National League’s final vote.
Flair, whose daughter, Charlotte Flair, is currently wrestling on WWE’s Smackdown Live! program, has been in and out of the limelight as he has progressed in age. When Charlotte Flair debuted, she would get a lot of help from Ric in her matches, cementing her standing as one of the best heels (bad guys) in the women’s division.

It has been a few weeks since I’ve tuned in to either Raw or Smackdown, but at last glance Ric Flair was still off doing his own thing.
What’s funny is that Flair’s most well-known catchphrase, a simple, “WOOOOOO” can be heard all around big league ballparks and through your television what feels like any given night. Below is a clip from the first time I remember hearing the catchphrase in a baseball context.
The “WOOOOO” has spread around the country as different fan bases seemingly take turns with the bellow. I seem to recall hearing it in Houston most recently, which makes sense because Astros outfielder Josh Reddick is a huge wrestling fan. When he’s not walking up to the plate to “Careless Whisper,” you can bet that it’s a wrestler’s theme music he’s blasting. In his time in Oakland I remember hearing Triple H’s theme quite a bit, Ryback’s a few times and I believe that the Wolfpack theme from the old N.W.O. days was thrown in there as well. That was definitely a song that saw play from Jason Giambi in his A’s days when the Attitude Era of wrestling was actually taking place.
The Houston fans cheering for Reddick with the “WOOOO” chant even caused some controversy in early May when a Rangers beat writer got fed up with the calls and took to social media. Flair, Reddick and J.J. Watt took to defending the chant.
Next: The case for each NL final vote candidate
It’ll be interesting to see if this endorsement from Flair will give Bour a push in the voting. As a member of the Miami Marlins, he may get some votes from people that may not care who goes but like seeing more of the hometown’s players represented. Add in some kind words from one of the best wrestlers of all time, and he may have a legitimate shot at making it.
Fans have until Thursday to cast their votes. After that they can smell. What The Rock. Is cookin’.
