The New York Yankees are going for it this season. They’ve even spoken with the Miami Marlins about Giancarlo Stanton.

Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. It sure was fun during the home run derby watching those two mash baseballs into the stratosphere. What if they were in the same lineup? That would be fun right? Well, the New York Yankees might try and make that happen. This is from Jon Heyman:

"It isn’t known exactly how serious the Yankees were about adding baseball’s other superb bigger-than-life star, and they obviously have much more pressing needs than another superstar power-hitting outfielder. Not only do they have the 2017 sensation Judge for right field, they have yet another talented rookie outfielder, Clint Frazier, who’s racking up extra-base hits.A Judge-Stanton lineup combination would be spectacular – though it seems like a long shot (no pun intended) at the moment. The pair lead their respective leagues in home runs, and together would be downright scary. It isn’t believed the Yankees’ talk with the Marlins went far beyond an initial phone call, and that apparently came weeks ago, and there’s no evidence any Stanton talks are ongoing with the Yankees at this time."

The Yankees already have a ton of outfield depth outside of Judge and Frazier. They also have Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury, who’s making some serious coin himself, not to mention prospect Dustin Fowler and Aaron Hicks, who’s on the mend from an injury. Where would Stanton even play? Would he DH which would make Matt Holliday the first baseman for the rest of the year?

If a move like this were to happen, I don’t think it would happen until after the season ends AND the Marlins sale is official. Having a star player, even with Stanton’s gargantuan contract does make them more attractive to a potential buyer. They can then figure out what to do with Stanton. Stanton’s salary jumps from $14 million this year to $25 million next year per Cot’s contracts.

Let’s say the New York Yankees were pushing to make this happen and try to make the batting practice show on the YES Network must watch TV just to see Stanton and Judge. What would a potential deal look like?

For this exercise, we’ll have the Yankees taking on 85% of Stanton’s contract. Would they try and have the Marlins take Jacoby Ellsbury back, who’s set to make $21 million himself for the next three years? Would the inclusion of Chance Adams, Jorge Mateo, Rob Refsnyder and Ben Heller be enough to get it done?

I wouldn’t expect to see Stanton dealt before July 31st, but hey, crazier things have happened before the MLB Trade Deadline.
