The Colorado Rockies hope catcher Jonathan Lucroy can be the final piece to a championship puzzle
The one part of the Colorado Rockies lineup that could use an upgrade is at catcher. Why? Well check this out.
To quote former Rockies catcher and current New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi, it’s not what you want. Well, the Rockies have made a deal to try and upgrade that position. They are getting someone with an expiring contract and who was traded just last year in Texas Rangers catcher Jonathan Lucroy.
You may remember that Lucroy rejected a trade that would have sent him to the Cleveland Indians last year, and instead accepted a deal that placed him in Texas.
The 31 year old has struggled for Texas. In 77 games, he’s hitting .242 with a .635 OPS, a stark contrast from last season where he hit .276 with an .885 OPS. Last season he was good for a 1.5 WAR. This year? -0.5.

The Rangers paid a high price last season for Lucroy in giving up Lewis Brinson, who is one of the top prospects in the game. The return? Well, not exactly Brinson.
If Lucroy is going to turn it around, Coors Field might just be the place for him to so. If you can’t hit well there, where are you going to be able to hit?

The Rockies have already added Pat Neshek to their bullpen and have added Lucroy to this mix. For the Rangers, they are in sell mode and Yu Darvish could be next to fall.
The MLB trade deadline is at 4pm tomorrow. Strap in.
