New York Mets Finally Bringing Up Amed Rosario
The Amed Rosario Countdown had been on since sometime in May, when it became obvious that the left side of the New York Mets infield could not hit their way out of a wet paper sack. The wait ends today.
It is difficult to point the finger at any one issue as an explanation for why the New York Mets have been a disaster this season. Indeed, the team as a whole has struggled, batting injuries and disappointing production as they have faltered in the standings. The issues this season have been a team effort.
And yet, it is easy to point the blame at the left side of the Mets infield. Jose Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera had been a disaster this season, failing to produce anything that resembled major league caliber production. With top prospect Amed Rosario seemingly ready for the majors, despite the protestations of Sandy Alderson, that lack of production has been even more egregious. Now, that wait is over, as Rosario is set to make his major league debut today.

For a rookie, there may be no better place to start one’s career than Colorado. Even though the Rockies pitching staff has improved, it is still Coors Field. The baseballs still fly out of its friendly confines. Rosario could have a great start to his major league career just from the ballpark he will debut in.
Based on his production this year, Rosario certainly appears ready. A consensus top ten prospect, he produced a stellar .328/.367/.466 batting line, hitting 19 doubles and seven homers. He has displayed excellent speed as well, with seven triples and 19 steals. The shortstop of the future for the Mets appears ready to take over the role in the present as well.

It is time that Amed Rosario makes his major league debut. If nothing else, it will give New York Mets a reason to watch over the final two months.
