New York Yankees Jaime Garcia Ties 122 Year Old Record
Back in 1895, Gus Weyhing started three consecutive games for three different teams. Newly acquired New York Yankees starter Jaime Garcia tied that feat on Friday.
The 1895 campaign was a busy time for Gus Weyhing in terms of player movement. He started the season with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he had pitched for the prior three seasons. However, he struggled in his first two appearances to start the year, allowing 22 runs, 20 earned, on 23 hits and 13 walks in nine innings. Let go by the Phillies, he surfaced with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Although he allowed seven runs on ten hits and five walks in that outing, just one was earned in the complete game victory.
After that outing, Weyhing moved on to the Louisville Colonels, where he finished out the season. He did not find much success there, finishing out the year with a 7-19 record. Again, Weyhing was hit hard, allowing 205 runs, 128 of which were earned, on 285 hits and 66 walks in 213 innings. It was a difficult year for the 28 year old.
In starting a game for three different teams in a row, Weyhing set an obscure record, one that had not been touched. That is, until Friday, when New York Yankees starter Jaime Garcia became the only pitcher since Weyhing to accomplish that feat 122 years ago.

Unlike Weyhing, Garcia actually pitched relatively well. On a struggling Braves team, he went 4-7 with a league average 4.30 ERA and a 1.319 WHiP. Traded to the Twins, he won his only start in Minnesota, allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks, striking out seven in his 6.2 innings. Garcia was then flipped to New York, as the Twins began to fall out of postseason contention. However, his first outing with the Yankees did not go well, as he allowed six runs, five earned, on five hits and four walks in 4.2 innings.
A solid middle of the rotation starter, Garcia should perform better for the Yankees in their postseason push. His ground ball tendencies, as well as his ability to keep the ball in the yard, should play well in Yankee Stadium. Garcia may not be a star, but he is exactly the type of arm that the Yankees needed in the rotation.

Jaime Garcia made history on Friday night, as he joined Gus Weyhing as the only pitchers to make three consecutive starts for three different teams. A perfect fit as a rental for the New York Yankees, he likely will not break that record by being sent elsewhere after this outing.
