Former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and his wife Hannah are celebrating the birth of their first child, Bella Raine.

Derek Jeter and his wife Hannah got married in July of 2016 and then announced in February that Hannah was pregnant. On Friday, August 18, the couple made it known to the world that they added their first child, a daughter, to the family.

Bella Raine Jeter will now carry the last name of the longtime New York Yankees shortstop and captain. Jeter, 43, and Hannah, 27, have a busy year ahead of them, especially after adding their first child. Jeter is part of a group that is in agreement to purchase the Miami Marlins for $1.2 billion. The group is led by Bruce Sherman, venture capitalist, who will be named controlling owner, and also includes NBA legend (and former MLB minor leaguer) Michael Jordan.

Jeter is also the founder of The Players’ Tribune, which tweeted out the announcement in addition to Derek’s former team.

Derek Jeter was a 14-time All-Star, five-time Gold Glove winner, five-time Silver Slugger, the 1996 AL Rookie of the Year and a five-time World Series champion. Now he can add father as well as part-owner of an MLB franchise to the list of accomplishments and accolades. He will be in charge of the business and baseball operations of the Marlins.

Bella Raine was likely to grow up in a baseball household, but now she definitely will. It will be interesting to see, though, if she takes up the Fish colors or if the Jeter family is forever a Yankee one. From everyone at Call to the Pen and FanSided MLB, congratulations to Derek and Hannah Jeter. We wish you the best.
