Milwaukee Brewers prospect Bubba Derby sacrificed his body, using it as a human shield during the Las Vegas mass shooting…

Las Vegas is a place where people go to cut loose, have a good time with friends, and dream of hitting it big at the luxurious casinos that are showcased on the Vegas strip. Those dreams turned to nightmares this past Monday, when a gunman ruthlessly murdered 58 people in cold-blood, leaving an estimated  489 others wounded at the Mandalay Bay hotel. Many heroic acts have surfaced since the tragedy occurred, including the selfless act of Milwaukee Brewers pitching prospect Bubba Derby.

Derby sacrificed his body, using it as a human shield, safeguarding two young women he had met at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival, featuring Country music superstar Jason Aldean, the target location of this cowardliness act.  Derby is still trying to piece together all that happened on that dark day. His touching interview says it all. Check out the video from TMZ Sports.

"It’s tragic, man. It hurts. My heart hurts. My stomach is constantly turning. It’s part of the feeling of a traumatic experience, the feeling of guilt, of not knowing why you were able to get out alive, get out uninjured."

Thankfully, Derby and those he was protecting were not severely injured but the experience was way too close for comfort:

"You could hear the bullets ricocheting off the ground."

Two survivors who Derby protected went to Twitter, telling of Durby’s heroics, which will leave you in tears:

Continuing in his selfless ways, his thoughts and prayers are drawn towards others, and not himself:

Next: Molina, Posada working to rebuild Puerto Rico

Derby risked it all, including his dream of reaching the Major Leagues, where he had a 7-1 record with an impressive 3.26 ERA in both AA Biloxi and AAA Colorado Springs this past season, both part of the Milwaukee Brewers organization. With his impressive 2017 campaign, no doubt Derby’s dream of reaching the Majors is just within his grasp. Every kid’s childhood dream, including mine, was to don the gear of a Major League Baseball team. That dream lives on, where Derby will have his chance to get the big call he’s always aspired towards when the 2018 season rolls around.
