Where could we see the New York Yankees trade Chase Headley?

Even when the New York Yankees were competing this summer, third baseman Chase Headley‘s name came up in trade talks. It made sense, especially when Todd Frazier joined the roster midseason. Only due to their lack of first base production were the Yankees more willing to keep him around.

Despite a lot of negativity tossed at Headley, the 33-year-old veteran produced at the plate this year. He finished the season batting .273/.352/.406 over 586 trips to the plate. Headley added 12 home runs and drove in 61 runs for the Yankees.

Whether they were winning or losing, Headley played often in 2017. Only Aaron Judge and Brett Gardner appeared in more games for the Yankees during the regular season. He also had the team’s third best OBP among players who appeared in 80 or more games. Judge and Aaron Hicks are the only two to reach base at a better rate.

As much as the Yankees could use Headley next year, they would probably like to see what Greg Bird can do. There’s also a chance they go out and add a first baseman in free agency. After all, there are a few good ones available.

Whatever it is the Yankees do, Headley is on the trade block. Since he is very unlikely to return in 2019, now might be the best time to trade him when all 29 teams are looking to restructure their rosters for the upcoming year. If they do, where might we see Headley suit up in 2018?
