Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves look real close to competing for something important. All they need to do is piece together a solid starting rotation. With guys like Yu Darvish and Jake Arrieta available in free agency, they can do so without trading the farm. If depth is more important, we could always see them sign Lance Lynn and someone such as Alex Cobb.

While pitching remains the Braves’ primary need, they may also look to upgrade at third base. Adonis Garcia didn’t play particularly well last year. Kendrick, while in the twilight of his career, might serve as a great transitional piece until they figure out the long-term option.

The Braves are pretty set in the outfield with an alignment that includes Matt Kemp, Ender Inciarte, and Nick Markakis. The latter is the most likely to not play in Atlanta next year. Kemp is owed too much money and Inciarte has the most value to the Braves. Markakis is far more likely to get traded in the offseason. Even if he doesn’t, Kendrick could move around the field and take over at any position when needed.

Atlanta can’t enter 2018 with full confidence in any young player. Dansby Swanson taught them this. An early favorite to win the Rookie of the Year, Swanson put together a rather ineffective freshman campaign. Ozzie Albies might do the same if he starts the year as their second baseman.

Kendrick has a role on the Braves in some capacity. He might not start 130 games, but he can deliver for them off the bench and add multiple positions throughout the year. Depending on what other teams are offering, this might be a nice landing spot for Kendrick if the Braves are indeed ready to build a competitive squad.
