With manager Joe Girardi being let go, changes will be coming to the Yankees. As such, the team is allowing their coaching staff to interview elsewhere.

It was a matter of time before the New York Yankees let Joe Girardi go. While every Yankees manager is on the hot seat seemingly from the moment they are hired, it felt as though the calls to fire Girardi began from the moment his introductory press conference was announced. Although his departure from New York was a bit of a surprise, it was not altogether unexpected.

Naturally, with Girardi leaving, changes will be coming to the Yankees coaching staff. For their part, the organization is looking to make this changeover as seamless as possible, especially with the realization that a new manager will likely take on a different coaching staff. Therefore, the Yankees sent an e-mail to every club on Friday, granting them permission to speak with any of their current coaches.

More from Call to the Pen

Given the circumstances, it makes sense for the Yankees to make their coaches available. Any new manager would want to bring in a staff they are comfortable with, and depending on when the search ends, there may not be many vacancies around the league. Letting their coaches find out what is available now is the right move.

One of those coaches has already taken the Yankees up on their offer. Third base coach Joe Espada has interviewed with the Astros and Red Sox. Presumably, these interviews have been about their bench coach position, although the exact position has not been divulged. It will also be interesting to see where Tony Pena, a well respected coach throughout the game, ends up.

Every manager wants to put their own stamp on the coaching staff, and the new manager of the New York Yankees is not likely to be an exception. However, the Yankees are losing out on a few well regarded coaches should they end up elsewhere.
