MLB’s Arizona Fall League has their showcase event tonight

Every fall, a host of the best prospects in MLB are assigned to the Arizona Fall League for the experience of competing against fellow top prospects, make up for missed time due to injury or other reasons, and/or to learn new skills/roles to assist in their development on the way to the major leagues. We will look at the rosters for the teams in tonight’s Fall Stars game tonight (8 PM Eastern on MLB Network or MLB.com) here:

East Roster

Pitchers: Yency Almonte, Colorado; Adbert Alzolay, Cubs; Kirby Bellow, Arizona; Brennan Bernardino, Cincinnati; Tyler Cyr, San Francisco; Samil De Los Santos, Angels; James Farris, Colorado; Gerson Moreno, Detroit; Tanner Scott, Baltimore; Justus Sheffield, Yankees; Jake Stinnett, Cubs

Catchers: Aramis Garcia, San Francisco; Tomas Nido, Mets

Infielders: David Bote, Cubs; Thairo Estrada, Yankees; Jake Gatewood, Milwaukee; Luis Guillorme, Mets; Ryan Mountcastle, Baltimore; Sheldon Neuse, Oakland; Matt Thaiss, Angels

Outfielders: Brandon Lee, Miami; Corey Ray, Milwaukee; Victor Reyes, Arizona; Victor Robles, Washington; Kyle Tucker, Houston

The two “studs” to watch on this roster should both be patrolling the outfield to start the game in Robles and Tucker. Robles is highly regarded in many circles as one of the top 10 prospects in the game, and Tucker is in that same realm. Sheffield has shown in the AFL why he’s such a highly regarded arm.

Two guys that people should be getting an eye on on the East roster are the Mets’ Nido, a catcher who’s shown an adeptness at handling the bat and solid work behind the dish as well, and the Brewers’ Gatewood, who really had a loud season in Milwaukee’s system in 2017 under the radar with so many other big prospects in the Brewers ranks.

West Roster

Pitchers: Sandy Alcantara, St. Louis; Argenis Angulo, Cleveland; Adam Coplick, Texas; Matthew Festa, Seattle; Jace Fry, White Sox; J.D. Hammer, Philadelphia; Jordan Hicks, St. Louis; Tyler Jay, Minnesota; Mitch Keller, Pittsburgh; Touki Toussaint, Atlanta; T.J. Zeuch, Toronto

Catchers: Andrew Knizner, St. Louis; Max Pentecost, Toronto

Infielders: Michael Chavis, Boston; Kevin Kramer, Pittsburgh; Nicky Lopez, Kansas City; Brandon Lowe, Tampa Bay; Francisco Mejia, Cleveland; Josh Naylor, San Diego; Austin Riley, Atlanta; Luis Urias, San Diego

Outfielders: Ronald Acuna, Atlanta; Matt Beaty, Dodgers; Braden Bishop, Seattle; Yusniel Diaz, Dodgers, Cornelius Randolph, Philadelphia

Seriously, the amount of talent on each roster isn’t really even fair. This West roster is loaded with top prospects, guys who should populate not just team top 30 lists, but top 100 lists this offseason. Ronald Acuna is the highlight bat to watch here after he’s put himself in the discussion for the top overall prospect in the game with the monstrous ascent he had through the minor leagues as a teenager this season.

On the mound, the big gun is Mitch Keller, who is a delight to watch in any game, but two guys to really enjoy watch in this game will be the heat from Alcantara and the wicked curve that Toussaint throws up there. Seeing if Cleveland’s Mejia gets some reps in the infield during the game will be interesting as well and worth the view!

A quick write up on every single player is available from MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo, if you’re interested. I would strongly encourage you to check out the game tonight on MLB Network or on MLB.com. For one, it can help in the baseball fix that I’m sure you’re already missing since the last game of the World Series a few days ago, but it’s also a chance to see the future stars in the game.
