San Francisco Giants rumors may be pretty solid, with the team reportingly making an offer for Giancarlo Stanton.

About one week ago, rumors floated around that Giancarlo Stanton might be on his way to the St. Louis Cardinals or San Francisco Giants.

Stanton has an important no-trade clause written in the fine print of his contract, giving the 2017 NL MVP the option to accept or veto any trades the Miami Marlins make including him.

Ken Rosenthal reports early details of a trade involving Giancarlo Stanton to the San Francisco Giants, which would shake things up in the NL West, to say the least.

The list of Giants who could possibly be involved includes the following:

Johnny Cueto’s contract includes a worth of $89 million, a $5 million buyout for 2022, also banking $500,000 value of bonus if traded.

Jeff Samardzija’s contract is $54 million over the next three years, with closer Mark Melancon due $38 million within a three-year span, including a plus a portion of the $8 million worth of a signing bonus, to go with a no-trade clause.

First baseman Brandon Belt has a contract of $64 million the next four years, where he has the option of blocking trades to 10 MLB teams, who remain anonymous.

Marlins GM Michael Hill on the free agency process: “I know what I want to do. I need to know what you can do. Until I know where you’re at on the contract, the money, all that stuff, I can’t engage.”

Now, back to Giancarlo Stanton. His contract is a massive, one that overlaps the period of several years:

  • 2018: $25 million
  • 2019: $26 million
  • 2020: $26 million
  • 2021: $29 million
  • 2022: $29 million
  • 2023: $32 million
  • 2024: $32 million
  • 2025: $32 million
  • 2026: $29 million
  • 2027: $25 million
  • 2028: $25 million team option, $10 million buy-out.

Even with an MVP now under his belt and a career season — .281 batting average with 132 RBI, 123 runs, and a 2017 Gold Glove Award runner-up. Is he worth all of that money, especially with a large assortment of injuries since 201?.

  • 2011: Right hamstring strain, quadriceps strain. Missed 11 games.
  • 2012: Right knee injury/abdominal strain. Missed 36 games.
  • 2013: Right hamstring strain/left shoulder soreness. Missed 44 games.
  • 2014: Hit by a pitch/severe facial fracture. Missed 17 games.
  • 2015 Left-hand fracture Missed 92 games.
  • 2016 (Another) Left-hand fracture. Missed 43 games.

Miami Marlins GM Michael is as confused as I am on the trade and free agency process, being cautious with every move, especially with Giancarlo Stanton.

I hope they have lawyered up and have the top financial advisors in the country — we are looking at you, Dave Ramsey. The San Francisco Giants have much to do in order to gain some ground on all the three frontrunners of the NL West.

Landing Giancarlo Stanton would be the first step, but like any team chasing the once in a lifetime player, they have to be careful not to handcuff themselves in the process.
