Texas Rangers’ Adrian Beltre adds Personality of the Year to his Hall of Fame resume. No one could be more deserving of this award.

Sometimes it’s hard to vote for an award winner. Giancarlo Stanton and Joey Votto both have a great case for the NL MVP. Other times the choice is clear. It may have a been a disappointing season for the Texas Rangers, but all was not lost.

Such is the case for the third baseman of the Texas Rangers, Adrian Beltre winning the MLB Personality of the Year.

While not as prestigious as the MVP, the Personality of the Year was tailor-made for Beltre.

More from Call to the Pen

First and foremost, there was the on-deck circle incident.

Umpire Gerry Davis asked Beltre to take his practice swings in the assigned on-deck circle.

So what did our protagonist do? He moved the circle where he wanted it.

Davis promptly ejected him, outing himself as the least humorous curmudgeon in baseball.

Perhaps the Personality of the Year is a partial apology on behalf of MLB for the most nonsensical suspension of 2017.

Of course, that’s not the only reason he deserves the award. Check out the following video, and try not to laugh out loud. It’s impossible:

Any discussion of Beltre needs to include two components:

  1. Beltre and Elvis Andrus are closer than you are with your best friend.
  2. DON”T TOUCH HIS HEAD!!!!

So, does anyone want to watch a video of Andrus trying to put silly hats on Beltre?

Beltre is now 38 years-old. He has one year remaining on his contract the Rangers, and no one knows what will happen after that. He’s never won a World Series or an MVP, and time is probably running out.

Nevertheless, he can always say he was baseball’s best personality of 2017. Eventually, he’ll also have the best personality in the Hall of Fame.
