Jackie Bradley Jr has been one of the more highly sought after players on the trade market. As such, it is no surprise that in the latest Red Sox rumors, three teams are inquiring about his availability.
It is likely to be an interesting offseason in regards to Red Sox rumors. They are already considered the favorites to land J.D. Martinez, bolstering the middle of the lineup. The Red Sox have an obvious hole at first base, and are expected to pursue Eric Hosmer. And, of course, there are always those needed pieces in the bullpen.
With the likelihood that the Red Sox sign Martinez, there would be a logjam in the outfield. Playing time would need to be found for Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, and Jackie Bradley. Of those players, Bradley would likely lose out, becoming more of a fourth outfielder than a regular in the lineup.
Naturally, this has led to teams inquiring as to his availability. The excellent defensive center fielder has been a popular trade target in previous years as well, although the Red Sox had less motivation to move him. However, with the expected roster crunch, two teams, the Giants and Royals, have been inquiring about Bradley’s availability.

It is understandable that Bradley would be of interest. He has been a strong defensive player, leading the American League in double plays and assists from center twice. After two relatively strong seasons with the bat, Bradley had a somewhat down year in 2017, with a .245/.323/.402 batting line. Even though his numbers were down, Bradley still hit 17 homers and stole eight bases.
There are two problems with moving Bradley. First, the Giants and Royals do not exactly have the best farm systems. Both teams have emptied their minor leagues for recent postseason runs, and have yet to rebuild. Meanwhile, the Giants are also very interested in Giancarlo Stanton, with their top prospects likely headed in that direction should a trade be consummated.
And then, there is the Red Sox own lack of desire to move Bradley. It is understandable that general manager Dave Dombrowski would not want to part with his starting center fielder, especially with Martinez not on the roster. Although this stance could change in the coming weeks, particularly if Boston does land the slugging free agent, there just is not a reason to send him elsewhere.
Next: Red Sox must trade for Stanton
There will be plenty of Red Sox rumors over the coming weeks. For now, those rumors about Jackie Bradley Jr. do not have any substance, although that may well change soon.
