St. Louis Cardinals rumors surface that the team has emerged as front-runners for relief pitcher Greg Holland.

St. Louis Cardinals rumors have been floating around all of the 2017-18 MLB free agency on the team’s next closer.

Wade Davis was on the shortlist until he recently signed with the Colorado Rockies for a cool $52 million. Another former Kansas Royals pitcher has been on the St. Louis Cardinals radar since the end of 2017, one that would be a perfect fit for the Birds on the Bat.

Greg Holland is the perfect man for the job, a position that had its fair share of ups and (more) downs in 2017 for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals parted ways with a quartet of relief pitchers following 2017, so relief help is a necessity heading into next season.

Now, this is not necessarily a bad thing, with each of the before mentioned relief pitchers having their fair share of struggles in 2017.

However, if these Cardinals rumors do not come to fruition, they may have to make do with weaker arms than the departed.

Their current arsenal has a bit of promise, with Tyler Lyons as the anchor of their middle relief core. The final part of his 2017 campaign was flat-out dominant — finishing with a 4-1 win/loss record. 2.83 ERA. 1.09 WHIP.

Lyons will no doubt be the gateway to the 9th inning, so landing Greg Holland is a necessity for the Cardinals.

Greg Holland’s 2017 slate produced National League Comeback Player of the Year honors, a trip to the All-Star game, and an appearance in the 2017 MLB postseason.

However, his final game in the Rockies’ pinstripes left Holland shell-shocked, who now is no doubt looking for a fresh start with another contender.

If these St. Louis Cardinals rumors are indeed true, the Redbirds would be one step closer to returning the playoffs, which they’ve missed out on the past two seasons.
