Padres Rumors: Eric Hosmer to become highest paid player in team history?
According to Padres rumors, Eric Hosmer reportedly has contract offers from both the San Diego Padres and Kansas City Royals.
San Diego Padres rumors have surfaced on the possible destination of former Kansas City Royals All-Star first basemen, Eric Hosmer.
If he accepts the Padres’ contract offer, Hosmer would become the highest paid player in the team’s history. Tony Gwynn, Steve Garvey, Trevor Hoffman and Dave Winfield all wish they played in today’s large contract era, that’s for sure.
The determining factor for Hosmer could come down his love for Kansas City Barbeque or if he prefers the stellar Baja fish tacos that only San Diego provides.
With Eric Hosmer as a hot commodity in the 2018 free agency market, some believe that the reported Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres rumors of a $147 million dollar offer are way too much.
Relatively speaking, is Eric Hosmer worth all of this crazy “jack” that is being thrown his way? Honestly, if that $147 million dollar price tag is Hosmer’s asking price, then no, he’s not worth that sort of money.

Now, Hosmer possibly could be the difference maker for say the St. Louis Cardinals, who are one piece away from being true National League contenders.
But, for teams like the Royals and Padres who are rebuilding, then this gaudy contract is not worth throwing Hosmer’s way.
Yes, he would be an ideal player to build a young team around, but after paying him close to $150 million, there isn’t much left to pay other suitable MLB players.
It would cripple both teams and their rebuild would take much longer than fans would like.
A lifetime .284 hitter, Hosmer is coming off his most productive MLB season to date — .318/.385/.498, with 25 home runs, 98 runs scored, and 94 RBI.
You also cannot put a price tag on his leadership, clubhouse presence, and postseason experience — with Eric Hosmer being an intricate part of the Royals’ 2014 and 2015 AL Champions teams, with the latter being a World Series title.

Eric Hosmer is no doubt a difference maker for a contending team, but if these Padres rumors are true, they are risking way too much money, hindering the San Diego Padres from a successful rebuild.
