TORONTO, ON - SEPTEMBER 21: Mike Moustakas

Mets rumors surface that All-Star third basemen and World Series champion, Mike Moustakas, could be on his way to the New York Mets.

New York Mets rumors are floating around that former Kansas City Royals fan-favorite may be on his way to the Empire State. Early rumblings suggest that the contract would possibly be:

"Four-year deal for somewhere in the $60-$70 million range."

On the surface, that plausible deal sounds a little steep, but the New York Mets are in dire need of a new third baseman. Badly. With the beloved David Wright in the twilight of his career, on his last leg — maybe even literally — snagging a “glue guy” such as Mike Moustakas would be worth every single penny.

A lifetime .251 hitter, Moustakas — Moose as the Kansas City faithful call him — has had his best offensive seasons the past three years. 2015 and 2017’s offensive surges have led to American All-Star selections and rightfully. Moustakas was also a participant in the 2017 All-Star game Home Run Derby in festive Miami, which speaks volumes of how far “Moose” has come as an MLB hitter.

Speaking of 2017, Moustakas slashed a solid .272/.314/.521 — with a career-high 38 long bombs, easily besting his 2015 total of 22. Will his power surge continue in 2018 and beyond? There is no reason to believe otherwise, especially if those Mets rumors end up coming to fruition.

The New York Mets, when healthy, have a solid lineup, which boasts the likes of slugger Yoenis Cespedes. Adding the one-two punch of Moustakas to go with the power bat of Cespedes, while filling the gaping hole at third base, could put the Mets back on track for 2018.

Now, the Mets’ strength is starting pitching, but giving them some run support would be wise — with Moustakas capable of boosting their lineup. Plus, playing in the Big Apple and under the bright lights of New York would finally shine a light on this underrated gem.

For now, these are only Mets rumors, but the New York faithful are hoping these dreams become a reality. Mike Moustakas is one of the best to play the hot corner in all of MLB, with the New York Mets being an excellent fit for the World Series champion.
