Marlins trade rumors: Starlin Castro already wants out of Miami
Marlins trade rumors surface that the newest addition to the Marlins, Starlin Castro, already wants out of Miami.
History repeats itself, with shades of the Miami Marlins 1997 firesale now evident twenty years later in South Beach. Somehow, they were able to win another World Series title six seasons later, with that strategy paying off, of sorts — which they are hoping for this time around, for sure. Marlins trade rumors have surfaced that Starlin Castro wants in on the action, calling for a trade out of Miami.
Keep in mind, Castro has not played one single game for the Miami Marlins, being part of the mega-deal which sent National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton to the New York Yankees. He wants out, and he wants out now.
Who can blame the guy, who spent the beginning of his career on a Chicago Cubs team that is much like the Marlins squad heading into 2018? A fan responded to Ken Rosenthal, suggesting sending Castro to a contender.
All joking aside, I would not put it past Derek Jeter and the rest of the Marlins leadership in sending Castro back to the Yankees. So far in this current “fire sale” the Marlins are basically giving players away. Even though they received an All-Star in Starlin Castro, the Minor League prospects in return were not even the best the Yankees had to offer. Not to mention, the Marlins still have to eat up $30 million of Stanton’s remaining contract.

The same rings true with their trade involving the St. Louis Cardinals — where they sent All-Star Marcel Ozuna to the Arch City, receiving much less than they should have in return. Miami could also get much in return for Castro, but who are we kidding? Any MLB team interested in Castro should offer the Marlins a pack of bubble gum, and they would likely oblige.
Starlin Castro is coming off another productive season — 300/.338/.454 with 16 home runs in only112 contests for the New York Yankees in 2017. Even though his defense is nowhere the caliber of days past, he is still a formidable option at the position.
Regarding his current contract:
Castro is owed roughly $23 million through 2019, and his contract also includes a $16 million option/$1 million buyout for 2020.
And who knows, you may convince the Miami Marlins to pick up Castro’s tab for you, with their recent string of generosity.

These Miami Marlins trade rumors that Sterlin Castro wants out of Miami is no doubt genuine, and who can blame the guy?
