MLB trade rumors surface that the New York Yankees are the new front-runners for Tampa Bay Rays’ ace Chris Archer.

With the New York Yankees swinging and missing on acquiring Gerrit Cole, they now set their sites on other, front of the line MLB pitchers. Among the bunch are both Michael Fulmer of the Detroit Tigers, and especially Chris Archer of the Tampa Bay Rays. MLB trade rumors have surfaced that the New York Yankees may be stiff competition for the St. Louis Cardinals in pursuing Archer.

Chris Archer would be a bargain for any aspiring pursuers since he:

"Owns one of baseball’s most team-friendly contracts. Including team options in 2020 and 2021, Archer is only owed around $34M over the next four seasons."

After an average 2017 campaign earned him an All-Star appearance due to a strong start, Chris Archer looks for more consistency in 2018 — 10-12 record. ERA 4.07.WHIP: 1.26. 201 innings pitched. 249/60 strikeout/walk ratio. A change of scenery would do him good, where playing on an MLB team with a winning culture would no doubt help his cause and production.

The Rays have somehow kept up with both the Yankees and Red Sox in spite of their less substantial payroll and resources, but trading Archer to their arch rival would no doubt undo that progress if these MLB rumors are true of Archer going to the Bronx,

St. Louis would be an excellent fit for Archer, where the Cardinals are in need of top-end starting pitching since Lance Lynn left for free agency. It would also be a win-win for the Rays, who could hit the jackpot with the Cardinals vast array of Minor League talent, while sending Archer to the National League, instead of within the division.

Either way, the Tampa Bay Ray are sellers and not buyers, with the Evan Longoria setting the tone for their future, which is all they have to look forward to now.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees are hoping these MLB trade rumors are true, with the potential addition of Chris Archer would just make the rich even richer.
