Yu Darvish offered contract by Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers make a push for free agent pitcher Yu Darvish.

In 2017, the Milwaukee Brewers did the unthinkable and nearly dethroned the Chicago Cubs from their National League Central perch. Peaking ahead of schedule, the Brew-Crew are looking to take that next step, by reaching the postseason in 2018. What better way to do so by snagging free agent All-Star Yu Darvish off of the MLB free agency wire.

They came up just short of the final Wild Card spot in 2017, but 2018 may have a better fortune for the Brewers, if Yu Darvish takes his talents to the “Badger State.” Recent reports surfaced that the Milwaukee Brewers have given an offer to Darvish, according to Yahoo Japan.

However, the 2017 MLB Fall Classic was not kind to Darvish, with a World Series to forget for the former American League Cy Young runner-up — giving up nine runs in less than four innings. But, the Brewers are expecting him to return to his ace form, which he’s slowly working his way back to from Tommy John surgery.

Darvish missed the entirety of the 2015 season, which slowed down his progress in the process. Upon his return in 2016, Darvish has recorded a 17-17 record, with an ERA just under 4.00.

The Brewers currently have the three-headed monster of Jhoulys Chacin, Yovani Gallardo, and the surprising Jimmy Nelson — who was shut down early last season due to a shoulder injury, ending his 2017 campaign prematurely.

Locking in Yu Darvish to join this trio would no doubt create a bit of separation from the St. Louis Cardinals, putting them on an even playing field with the Chicago Cubs. Speaking of the boys from the Windy City; the Cubs are rumored to be in substantial pursuit of Darvish — as well as the Astros, Twins, and his original MLB team, the Rangers.

The Milwaukee Brewers need to make Yu Darvish an offer he can’t refuse, so they aren’t outbid by these heavy hitters also in pursuit of his services. If they can land him, the sky is the limit for the Brewers in 2018.
