Esteban Loaiza arrested with an absurd amount of drugs
Former major league pitcher Esteban Loaiza was arrested on Friday, as he had over 20 kilograms of either cocaine or heroin in his possession.
Although Esteban Loaiza had not been on a professional mound in five years, it seems that he never stopped dealing.
These days, most baseball players are getting in trouble for PED usage or failed drug tests for recreational substances. However, that was not enough for Loaiza. Instead, he took a page out of the 1970s and 1980s, back when Rock Raines was sliding carefully to avoid breaking his vials of crack, the Pirates mascot was dealing coke out of his parrot suit, and Sid Vicious was shooting himself up into the afterlife. On Friday, Loaiza was arrested with over 20 kilograms of either cocaine or heroin.

Understandably, Loaiza is set to face felony drug charges on Wednesday. After all, any time someone channels their inner Scarface, it’s a matter of time until the law finds out. In this case, the police shut down Loaiza and his operation, unlike the police in the town I grew up in…
There was a time when Loaiza was on top of the world, only without a machine gun in hand and coke in his nose. He had been a two time All Star, and finished second in the 2003 AL Cy Young award vote. He finished his career as the second winningest pitcher to hail from Mexico, posting a lifetime 126-114 record, with a 4.65 ERA and a 1.408 WHiP. In his 2099 innings, he struck out 1382 batters, 207 of those strikeouts coming when he led the league in 2003.
It is also interesting to note that Loaiza had been a part of the Chicago White Sox FanFest a few weeks back. His Instagram account shows him signing autographs and posing with fans. Just avoid having a Coke and a smile with him – his interpretation of the jingle is a bit different than the intent.
