Chirinos has to be considered the favorite due to his experience, however, he must find a way to stay healthy. Speaking of experience, Nicholas and Centeno all have it, however, Nicholas hasn’t had much of an impact in his stints on the main roster. Centeno has had some better luck but hasn’t lived up to expectations. Trevino is a minor league prospect that has a chance to making the majors for the first time in his career.
Trevino should also be considered the favorite and here’s why; He’s been making quite an impact in the minors. According to Gerry Fraley, Trevino won the Minor League Baseball Rawlings Gold Glove award the last two years in a row due to his ability to be the best defensive catcher in the minors, which is what the Rangers could use on their main roster. At the very least, he has a chance of making the Opening Day roster.
