The early dominance shown by a few of MLB top teams leads to the thought…is there a 2018 roster capable of breaking the single-season wins record of 116? Looking at you Astros and Indians. Or maybe another great team could do it?

There are some seriously good teams in Major League Baseball this year. Teams that appear to have no lasting weaknesses, while also having loads of experience. It leads to the thought that maybe, just maybe, there is a team that could break the MLB single-season team wins record of 116.

Two teams have won 116 games in the history of MLB. The 1906 Chicago Cubs finished the year 116-36 (152-game season), and the 2001 Seattle Mariners went 116-46. A few squads have come close to the record, the closest being the ‘98 Yankees, a year in which they won 114 games.

2017 saw three clubs win over 100 games; however, none of them came close to the record. The Houston Astros won 101, the Cleveland Indians 102, and the Los Angeles Dodgers 105. As great as each team was, it goes to show how incredibly difficult it is to win 116 games out of 162.

With that being said, 2018 will be the year in which the MLB record is broken. There are as many capable teams as ever. Thus, one of them will set a new bar for one of MLB’s most coveted records.
