The Detroit Tigers are off to a surprisingly solid start so far. There have been several good signs for the Tigers through the first week-plus of games.

Going into the 2018 season, few were expecting big things out of the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers officially began a new chapter last summer, trading away many of their veteran players and building for the future.

While future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez are still on the roster, the Tigers are a younger team right now and a couple of opportunities have been opened up for young and up-and-coming players.  A few Tigers, such as third baseman Jeimer Candelario and second baseman Dixon Machado, made their first opening day roster as starters this season.

The Tigers have been playing pretty good baseball so far in 2018, however, going 4-4 through their first eight games. Out of their four losses, the Tigers had a walk off win overturned on opening day (only to go on to lose) and also suffered two 1-0 defeats. This is a team that could very easily have six or seven wins right now.

Granted, it is still extremely early in the season and an awful lot would still have to go right in order for the Tigers to compete this year. Still, Detroit’s solid start is worthy of notice and attention. They are also showing that they do, in fact, have the talent and potential to perhaps be a surprise team this year. Here are a few of the biggest positives for the Tigers so far in 2018.
