According to recent MLB trade rumors, the New York Mets have a shot at acquiring Miami Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto, which would be a godsend for a depleted catching position.

The New York Mets are off to a sizzling start to the 2018 MLB campaign, beginning the season with a stellar 11-1 record. However, they still have work to do in becoming true MLB postseason contenders — especially in finding a formidable catcher. Recent MLB trade rumors are rumbling, which could bring relief to an ailing catching position in the Big Apple.

According to recent MLB trade rumors, the Miami Marlins are interested in trading rising star catcher J.T. Realmuto — if the price is right, that is.

Mike Puma of the New York Post has the latest scoop on these MLB trade rumors, involving the New York Mets, Miami Marlins, and J.T. Realmuto.

With plans A and B, Travis d’Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki both sidelined with injuries; their ailments may be a blessing in disguise — with the New York Mets potentially landing a godsend in the process. JT. Realmuto has yet to play in 2018, while currently recovering from a minor back contusion injury, but, he’s emerged onto the MLB scene over the past few seasons with the Miami Marlins.

For his career, J.T Realmuto is slashing an impressive .280/.322/.428, while hitting double digits in home runs the past two seasons. Defensively, he is an above average defender, and only 27 years old. The best news for any aspiring team is that his contract is currently locked up through the 2020 season, so he’d be more than just a one-year rental.

What would the New York Mets have to give up?

The most important inquiry is, what would the New York Mets have to pay to land J.T. Realmuto? Quite a bit actually, but it wouldn’t cripple them entirely. They would have to give up the likes of Andres Gimenez, who is their most promising young prospect — currently balling in High-A ball.

Or, they would have to sell the farm, so to speak, in including both Michael Conforto, and Amed Rosario. Unfortunately, the possibilities of acquiring him are slim to none, with the New York Mets likely just out of reach of landing this deal.

Maybe the New York Mets could do a straight up deal with the Miami Marlins of J.T Realmuto for Tim Tebow? We joke we joke; we kid, we kid.

It appears these MLB trade rumors may be, well, rumors. Time will tell, but it’s unlikely that J.T Realmuto will be donning a New York Mets uniform — even though he would be a godsend for this surprising MLB contender.

Instead, the New York Mets will have to move on from the Miami Marlins catcher and look elsewhere — so stay tuned for the juicy details of those possibilities during the lunch-time hour later today!
