GOODYEAR, AZ - FEBRUARY 20: Nick Sennzel

With the Cincinnati Reds off to a historically bad start, MLB rumors are circulating that their top prospect, Nick Senzel, will get the call to “the Show” sooner than later.

Off to their worst start since 1931, the Cincinnati Reds fans are looking for a sort of silver lining to keep them interested in the 2018 squad. It’s difficult, with star third baseman Eugenio Suarez on the disabled list and a pitching staff that is glorified batting practice, with a brutal team ERA of 5.78. Yikes!

Even with the two bright spots in Homer Bailey and Joey Votto, the Cincinnati Reds faithful need a reason to optimistic for the future, while providing a bit of excitement for the present day. They may have found an answer in both, with their elite prospect Nick Senzel.

Drafted second overall in 2016 out of the University of Tennesee, Nick Senzel is a tremendous talent — carrying a big stick and golden glove.

The hole left by Eugenio Suarez does open a door, clearing a path for Nick Senzel to step in at third base — which seems like the answer to the Cincinnati Reds current woes. Calling up their top prospect would likely see an increase in attendance and create a buzz at Great American Ball Park for the first time in a few years.

However, don’t hold your breath for a call-up anytime soon, with the Cincinnati Reds organization making it crystal clear that they don’t want to rush Nick Senzel to the MLB level — according to Mark Sheldon with MLB.com, who recently investigated the matter.

Honestly, that’s a wise move, even though Cincinnati Reds supporters need something to cheer about. Thank the baseball gods for Joey Votto and his potent bat, suave glove, and electric personality to keep the Cincinnati faithful entertained in the meantime.

Billy Hamilton is a treat to watch, with his tremendous speed and elite defense, he’s worth the price of admission alone.

Every fifth day that Cincinnati Reds inflated near 6.00 ERA is closer to a 3.00 ERA, with the resurgence of veteran pitcher Homer Bailey.

Unfortunately, these MLB rumors of a Nick Senzel MLB call-up appear to be, well, just MLB rumors. It’s likely that Nick Senzel will be a September addition to the roster, and perhaps, not even then — if he’s not ready.

It’s a sad state of affairs for the Cincinnati Reds and their terrific fanbase if we’re grasping at straws for things to keep them interested in the current season.

Keep your heads up in Ohio, the Cincinnati Reds won’t stay down for long, with an array of talent waiting down in the minors with Nick Senzel. In the meantime, enjoy the likes of Joey Votto, Billy Hamilton, and Homer Bailey. If you want to see Nick Senzel and cannot wait, take a trip to Louisville and watch him mash in Triple-A.
