MLB rumors are floating around that former New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi is a contender to replace Bryan Price as Cincinnati Reds manager.

After a historic start to the season for the Cincinnati Reds, and for all of the wrong reasons, the organization is not messing around after firing it’s (former) manager Bryan Price and (former) pitching coach Mack Jenkins.

The problems for the Cincinnati Reds extend far beyond Bryan Price, with the organization making wrong decision, after wrong decision — leading to where they reside currently. In the depths of the MLB standings, looking up at their hated divisional rivals in the NL Central.

Now, it’s time to let the past die and look forward towards the future, where their next managerial hire could be a step in a positive direction, righting this sinking ship.

According to Bob Nightengale, a few MLB rumors on front-runners have emerged as possible replacements for Bryan Price, with the veteran Jim Riggleman currently manning the controls.

Barry Larkin is a popular choice, one that the Cincinnati Reds would be wise to pursue. However, there’s another darkhorse candidate who may be the right man for the job.

A man with success at the MLB level under the brightest of lights. A man with a hard-nosed attitude that the Cincinnati Reds so desperately need. That man is none other than Joe Girardi.

The former New York Yankees manager got a raw deal, after leading a young squad to the ALCS — a heartbeat away from the World Series. It still baffles me on why they “let him go,” especially with these career accolades Joe Girardi boasts.

During his time as New York Yankees manager from 2008-2017:

  • 2009 World Series title
  • Six playoff appearances
  • American League East Division titles (2009, 2011, 2012).
  • Joe Girardi never had a losing record — 910-710 (a winning percentage of .562).

I’m sure those accomplishments have the Cincinnati Reds attention, especially the fact that Joe Girardi never had a losing season. Not a single one. Granted, he had much to work with and resources aplenty in New York, but that’s still very impressive.

With MLB rumors floating around, Barry Larkin is the trendy pick for the Cincinnati Reds, but Joe Girardi may be the perfect man for the job.

If given time to rebuild in Cincinnati, Joe Girardi just might be the right man to lead the Cincinnati back to the MLB postseason, and possibly to their first World Series appearance in nearly 30 years.
