Former MLB slugger Matt Holliday says that his baseball playing days may not be done, with MLB rumors surfacing that a potential comeback may be in the “Cards” for the veteran player.
Matt Holliday evidently still has a bad taste in his mouth after an injury-plagued campaign with the New York Yankees in 2017. Hovering just above 2,000 career hits, 1,900 games played, and a batting average just a hair below .300, he undoubtedly looks to make another push at the Baseball Hall of Fame — according to recent MLB rumors.
In the meantime, Matt Holliday has scratched that baseball itch in the broadcasting booth and on the airwaves with a variety of on-air stations, with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch providing the details of his current ventures — where he’s appeared on:
"MLB Network Radio, which is on SiriusXM satellite radio. (XM channel 89, Sirius channel 209). He moves to a set slot next week when he becomes a regular on the “Inside Pitch” show on Tuesdays that airs from 1-4 p.m. He will be co-host of the program with Casey Stern and also will fill in on other shows on the channel from time to time."
It seems that his broadcasting endeavors are holding him over until he finds another MLB gig. Matt Holliday still believes he can play at a “high level,” with MLB rumors surfacing that he might give baseball one last college try.
"“If (the right one) comes along … I’m interested. If not, I’m enjoying my time with my family. I’ve got four kids (who are high school age and younger), I’ve played a long time.”"
I honestly believe that Matt Holliday has another productive season or two left in the tank, as long as he stays healthy, and if it’s the right fit like Matt Holliday states. The New York Yankees appeared to be an excellent fit for the slugger, but things didn’t work out.
A few MLB teams that could use his services are teams such as the Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners, even a return to the surprising Oakland Athletics. A veteran, calming presence with a thunderous bat, rotating at the Designated Hitter position and off the bench is always in need, especially come Octobober baseball.
“I’m trying to figure out if I get a chance to play again.I think I can still play at a high level.”
Even with his 2017 struggles with the New York Yankees, his reflection remains on the good times, especially his sendoff with the St. Louis Cardinals to end the 2016 campaign.
He even hit a home run in one of his final at bids donning the Birds on the Bat, a moment St. Louis Cardinals fans appreciated tenfold. They aren’t called the “best fans” in baseball for nothing.
Matt Holliday received a deafening standing ovation while leaving his outfield perch for the final time, one only St. Louis Cardinals fans can provide.
What a moment in baseball Heaven that late September evening.

Unfortunately, Matt Holliday’s days with the St. Louis Cardinals are over, even if he dons those MLB cleats once again — with an American League destination a certainty, as a Designated Hitter. Hopefully, these MLB rumors are true, and an MLB team gives Matt Holliday one last shot at glory.
