New York Yankees starter Jordan Montgomery could be facing a serious injury after leaving last night’s game early with arm issues, stirring up all sorts of MLB rumors.
New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery exited Tuesday’s start against the defending World Series champion Houston Astros, after complaining of arm tightness in his left elbow — according to MLB.com’s New York Yankees expert Bryan Hoch — sparking MLB rumors that this may be a significant injury.
New York Yankees faithful, say this along with me. Uh oh! This potential injury is not good for the Bronx Bombers, who have finally found their groove. Once Giancarlo Stanton gets going, the New York Yankees will give the Boston Red Sox all they can handle in the AL East. But, they need starting pitching to hang with the MLB elite.
However, they may have to do so without one of their best starting pitching arms in Jordan Montgomery, depending on the results of further tests and evaluation.
Jordan Montgomery has faced this sort of ailment before but typically can overcome it with arm exercise and focus treatment. However, seven pitches into the New York Yankees 4-0 victory against the Houston Astros, Jordan Montgomery wasn’t able to shake it off this time around.
He told Bryan Hoch after the game:
"“It was giving me fits for a little while. I thought I could throw through it. I’ve been doing a little extra treatment and little exercises. In college and the Minor Leagues, I’ve been able to grind through something like this. But it gave me a little discomfort.”"

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone and Jordan Montgomery both remain optimistic for the long term, but the hurler is certainly heading to the 10-DL as a precaution. They both are adamant that this is a temporary setback, but I would be slightly concerned if I were the New York Yankees.
Aaron Boone noticed that Jordan Montgomery’s velocity was down in last night’s contest, a reoccurring trend for him in 2018. According to MLBTradeRumors.com, his velocity in 2018 averages about 90.3 mph, dropping from his mean of 92 mph during his stellar 2017 rookie campaign.
In the meantime, Domingo German is projected to take Jordan Montgomery’s in the starting rotation. Thus far, Jordan Montgomery is picking up where he left off in 2017, with a 2-0 and 3.62 ERA in just under thirty innings pitched this season.
If Jordan Montgomery were to miss significant time, the New York Yankees are going to need to find more depth — a pitching staff which is lacking that within their arsenal. It could force the hand of New York Yankees in becoming buyers in the starting pitching trade market, something they should be doing anyway.

Meanwhile, hopefully, these MLB rumors of a severe injury regarding Jordan Montgomery’s shoulder remain only MLB rumors — the New York Yankees cannot afford to lose him for more than a few starts.
