The Yankees were helped by the work of two rookies as Domingo German had a brilliant debut on the mound and Gleyber Torres walked it off on a day full of dominant pitching!

At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we will be including a new daily piece into our collection each morning with all of the night’s scores at every level of the majors and minors, along with a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.

Without further adieu, let’s begin!

MLB Scores

New York Yankees 7, Cleveland Indians 4 in New York – Yankees rookie Domingo German took a no-hitter through 6 innings, but he needed every bit of his performance as Mike Clevinger was incredible for the Indians, with the game scoreless until the 8th inning. Gleyber Torres hit a 3-run game-winning home run.

Colorado Rockies 3, New York Mets 2 in New York

Toronto Blue Jays 2, Tampa Bay Rays 1 in Tampa Bay – Kevin Pillar had a pair of doubles and Marco Estrada and Chris Archer went toe-to-toe on the night with the Blue Jays scoring in the top of 9th to win the ballgame.

San Francisco Giants 4, Atlanta Braves 3 in Atlanta – The Braves made a furious comeback, but the Giants dinked and dunked the Braves to death with little bloopers falling in everywhere all day long in a rookie matchup between Andrew Suarez and Mike Soroka.

Washington Nationals 5, Philadelphia Phillies 4 in Washington – The Nationals came back from 4-1 down going into the bottom of the 8th inning to walk off with the win Sunday after Max Scherzer struck out 15 Phillies in his 6 1/3 innings.

Pittsburgh Pirates 9, Milwaukee Brewers 0 in Milwaukee – Chad Kuhl took his home-dominant show on the road to shut down the Brewers. Kuhl has been one of the most dominant starters at home, but he’s typically a different pitcher on the road for the Pirates. The Pirates got 3 home runs from their lineup in the win.

Minnesota Twins 5, Chicago White Sox 3 in Chicago – James Shields took a no-hitter into the 7th inning, but then the White Sox pitching fell apart, and the Twins scored 3 in the 7th to tie the game along with a run in each the 8th and 9th to help tide a recent losing streak.

Kansas City Royals 4, Detroit Tigers 2 in Kansas City – Jakob Junis dominated the Tigers over 7 innings and the Royals used timely hitting to put up 3 runs in the 3rd inning. Jorge Soler continued his hot hitting as part of the Royals attack.

Boston Red Sox 6, Texas Rangers 1 in Texas – Chris Sale was absolutely dominant over the Rangers lineup, and J.D. Martinez continued his under-radar explosive season this year with his 8th home run, Mookie Betts did leave the game with an injury.

Oakland Athletics 2, Baltimore Orioles 1 in Oakland – The Athletics continues to do just enough to continue their winning ways, putting up 2 runs in the 4th inning. Andrew Triggs outdueled Alex Cobb on a day where both threw very well.

San Diego Padres 3, Los Angeles Dodgers 0 in Mexico City – Rookie Eric Lauer tossed an impressive game, scattering 7 hits over 6 scoreless innings, and Eric Hosmer hit his 5th home run of the season as the Padres bounced back from being no-hit for their own shutout win.

Los Angeles Angels 8, Seattle Mariners 2 in Seattle – Shohei Ohtani showed no rust after being off for over a week from pitching, going 6 innings and striking out 6. Mike Trout pounded out a home run along with stealing a base to go with an exceptional defensive play on the day for an all-around amazing day.

Arizona Diamondbacks 3, Houston Astros 1 in Arizona – Justin Verlander was outdueled by young starter Matt Koch and Brad Boxberger saved his 11th game as the Diamondbacks made a push toward the best record in baseball, having moved into the position as the top record in the NL with the win.

Miami Marlins 8, Cincinnati Reds 5 in Cincinnati – The Marlins put 4 runs across in the first inning and simply kept up their attack throughout the game to come away with a big win. Joey Votto went 4-5 with a home run and a double in a losing effort.

St. Louis Cardinals 4, Chicago Cubs 3, 14 innings in St. Louis – After a lengthy rain delay, the Cubs and Cardinals did what you’d expect the best rivalry in the Midwest to do – play until the bitter end, even if that’s 14 innings later! Javy Baez attempted to bring the marathon to an end with a solo home run in the top of the 14th, but Dexter Fowler had other ideas, walking off with his 5th home run of the season.

Standouts

All too often he’s been overlooked simply because of his team’s poor standing, but Joey Votto simply continues to amaze. In a loss on Sunday to the Marlins, Votto went 4-5 and pounded out a double and a home run.

Chad Kuhl has been ridiculously good in Pittsburgh, but he took that work with him in a road start Sunday, going 7 innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit and two walks, striking out 8.
