Without further adieu, let’s begin!
MLB Scores
Philadelphia Phillies 11, San Francisco Giants 0 in Philadelphia – The Phillies got a strong pitching performance from Zach Eflin and some big offensive performances from Odubel Herrera and Cesar Hernandez as they pounded the Phillies.
Chicago Cubs 14, Miami Marlins 2 in Chicago – The Cubs jumped out with 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning and scored multiple runs in 6 of the 8 innings they came to the plate as they torched the Marlins for the routing victory.
Texas Rangers 7, Detroit Tigers 6 in Texas – The Rangers came back from 5-1 to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th, and when the Tigers put up a run in the top of the 7th, the Rangers scored two in the bottom of the inning and handed the game to their bullpen to seal the deal.
Houston Astros 16, Oakland Athletics 2 in Oakland – Houston jumped out with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, then scored 3 in the second to take a commanding lead. Before Oakland had a chance to respond, the Astros exploded for 6 runs in the 5th inning to put the game completely out of reach. George Springer had six hits on the day.
Washington Nationals 8, San Diego Padres 5 in San Diego – The Nationals busted open a 1-1 game in the top of the 6th with 4 runs to back Stephen Strasburg. Matt Adams had a big game at the plate with 2 home runs and 5 RBI.
New York Mets 7, Cincinnati Reds 6 in Cincinnati – The Mets got a balanced offensive attack early on and hung on for the win. Adrian Gonzalez hit two home runs to power the Mets to the win.
Minnesota Twins 6, St. Louis Cardinals 0 in St. Louis – Twins rookie starter Fernando Romero had a second brilliant start for the Twins as they shut down the Cardinals, likely still exhausted after their late-night battle with the Cubs on Sunday evening.
Standouts
After an 0-5 day at the plate on Sunday, George Springer bounced back in a big way on Monday, going 6 for 6 with a double and a home run, scoring 4 runs, and driving in 3 as Houston routed the upstart A’s.
The Minnesota Twins have been seeking a hard-throwing, dominant starter for years. They may have found one in rookie Fernando Romero, who definitely didn’t have his best control on Monday, but his pitches were moving so well and he attacked with an average fastball of 96 MPH, allowing him to breeze through the deep Cardinals lineup.
