The Seattle Mariners James Paxton no hits the Blue Jays, Giancarlo Stanton puts on a show against the Red Sox, and more on today’s Relief Roundup

At Call to the Pen, we want to ensure every MLB team is getting coverage, and that you’re well-informed as the reader! As part of that, we will be including a new daily piece into our collection each morning with all of the night’s scores at every level of the majors and minors, along with a bit of history/birthdays at the very end.

Without further adieu, let’s begin!

MLB Scores

New York Yankees 3, Boston Red Sox 2 in New York – Giancarlo Stanton was a one-man wrecking crew, hitting two home runs and stealing a base as well as the Yankees defeated the Red Sox. Luis Severino struck out 11 Red Sox.

Kansas City Royals 15, Baltimore Orioles 7 in Baltimore – The Royals put up 10 runs in the top of the first on starter Dylan Bundy, and in spite of strong efforts late in the game, that initial gap was too much to overcome for the Orioles offense.

Atlanta Braves 1, Tampa Bay Rays 0 in Tampa Bay – A Ronald Acuna solo home run in the 3rd inning was the only run scored in a brilliant pitching duel between Atlanta’s Sean Newcomb and Tampa Bay’s Blake Snell, two of the most talented young left-handed pitchers in the game.

Philadelphia Phillies 4, San Francisco Giants 2 in Philadelphia – The Giants scored first, but the Phillies answered right back and behind 3 home runs from their offense and a 7-inning, 12-strikeout performance from starter Aaron Nola, defeated the Giants.

Seattle Mariners 5, Toronto Blue Jays 0 in Toronto – Canadian-born James Paxton threw a no-hitter in his home country as the Mariners took Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jays. Paxton threw 99 pitches, striking out 7 and walking 3 en route to history.

Milwaukee Brewers 3, Cleveland Indians 2 in Milwaukee – The Brewers jumped on Indians ace Corey Kluber with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and another run in the 3rd, and that was enough as they held on for the 3-2 win Tuesday night.

Minnesota Twins 7, St. Louis Cardinals 1 in St. Louis – The Cardinals scored first, but the Twins did all the rest of the scoring in the game as they shut down the Cardinals for the second game in a row behind an excellent performance from Jake Odorizzi.

Detroit Tigers 7, Texas Rangers 4 in Texas – The Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the end of the 2nd inning on starter Mike Minor, and they held on as the Rangers attempted to come back against the Tigers bullpen. The Tigers got 3 home runs from their offense in the win.

Chicago Cubs 4, Miami Marlins 3 in Chicago – The Marlins jumped out with 3 runs in the first inning off Cubs starter Jen-Ho Tseng, but that’s all they’d get all game as the Cubs chipped away for the win.

Houston Astros 4, Oakland Athletics 2 in Oakland – An excellent pitching battle between two talented young arms broke out with a pair of runs in the fifth and another in the sixth for the Astros off Sean Manaea, giving Lance McCullers, Jr. his fifth win of the season.

Washington Nationals 4, San Diego Padres 0 in San Diego – Jeremy Hellickson took a perfect game into the 7th inning and the bullpen maintained the shutout as the Nationals took the game on Tuesday in San Diego.

Pittsburgh Pirates 10, Chicago White Sox 6 in Chicago – The White Sox scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st, but the Pirates came right back in the top of the 2nd and kept adding on throughout the game, pounding White Sox pitching for 16 hits on the night.

Colorado Rockies 4, Los Angeles Angels 2 in Colorado – Rockies starter Jon Gray kept the Angels at bay for 7 strong innings as the offense pieced together runs in three innings and Wade Davis saved his 14th game of the season in the Rockies win.

Arizona Diamondbacks 8 Los Angeles Dodgers 5, 12 innings in Los Angeles Dodgers – The Dodgers got a home run off of closer Brad Boxberger in the 9th inning to tie the game, but neither team could get anything done until the Diamondbacks got a 3-run home run in the extra innings.

Cincinnati Reds 7, New York Mets 2 in Cincinnati – The Luis Castillo that the Cincinnati Reds have been waiting on all season re-appeared again and helped to shut down the Mets after the two teams completed a swap of Matt Harvey and Devin Mesoraco earlier in the day.

Standouts

The Yankees needed every one of their runs to defeat the Red Sox on Tuesday, and Giancarlo Stanton provided two of their runs with swings of his bat, as he hit two solo home runs, adding in a walk and a stolen base on the day for good measure.

The unabashed star of the day was absolutely James Paxton who led his Seattle Mariners to victory in dominating no-hit fashion in his native Canada over the Blue Jays. Paxton struck out 7 Jays and allowed 3 walks on the day.
