MLB Standings: AL Wild Card

Current standings:

28-14 Boston Red Sox (+64 run differential)

25-17 Los Angeles Angels (+33 run differential)

24-17 Seattle Mariners (+5 run differential)

21-21 Toronto Blue Jays (-5 run differential)

21-21 Oakland Athletics (-13 run differential)

18-20 Minnesota Twins (-15 run differential)

19-22 Detroit Tigers (-6 run differential)

18-22 Tampa Bay Rays (-21 run differential)

16-27 Texas Rangers (-62 run differential)

13-28 Baltimore Orioles (-56 run differential)

13-29 Kansas City Royals (-71 run differential)

10-28 Chicago White Sox (-74 run differential)

There are three tiers in the AL wild card MLB standings. The Red Sox, Angels and Mariners are on the top tier, all off to good starts. Treading water in the next tier are five teams from the Blue Jays to the Rays. Then come the true bottom-feeders, all with terrible records and run-differentials that back up their bad records.

MLB Standings Projected finish:

99-63 Boston Red Sox

89-73 Los Angeles Angels

84-78 Toronto Blue Jays

83-79 Seattle Mariners

80-82 Minnesota Twins

80-82 Oakland Athletics

76-86 Tampa Bay Rays

73-89 Texas Rangers

70-92 Baltimore Orioles

70-92 Detroit Tigers

67-95 Kansas City Royals

62-100 Chicago White Sox

Based on the projections, you could hand the first wild card to the Red Sox (or Yankees), then watch the Angels, Blue Jays and Mariners battle it out for the second wild card spot.

Perhaps the Twins or A’s can get hot and join that crowd. The rest of the teams aren’t in the mix, so look for them to put out “for sale” signs in July.
